Well, how impressive was Jordan Spieth at the Masters? For someone only 21 years of age to perform in that manner with the golfing eyes of the world fixed on you is quite remarkable. From a neutral point of view I would have liked to have seen the margin of victory a lot closer to make for more exciting viewing but you can't take anything away for the young man for leaving everyone trailing in his wake. As usual, the media have now increased the hype around him and a heaped even more pressure on his shoulders. Let's just wait and see.
Congratulations to Sandra Handley who was lucky enough to select Jordan Spieth in the Masters Sweepstake! Ronnie McQueen was second with Justin Rose and Liz Young third with Phil Mickelson. Look out for similar competitions in the future.
On Thu 30 Apr we will be hosting a Callaway Fitting Day at Boat of Garten GC. In this section we are going to look at any issues or projects that are ongoing on the golf course at Boat of Garten. This week we are going to look at a procedure that never fails to annoy and frustrate golfers all over the world but it is an essential operation to maintain the quality and condition of the greens. We are of course referring to AERATION. Please take a few minutes to watch this short video that may help give you a better understanding of why we have to carry out this task on the greens.
We are only a couple of weeks into the season and already we've had the first hole-in-one!
Congratulations to Andy Grigor on this achievement last week while out playing with our Club Captain, Craig Sutherland. Andy achieved his ace at the third hole and depending on who you ask the ball was never going anywhere else!
Andy can be seen here pointing out the scene of his triumph.
At Boat of Garten on Wednesday the ladies vied for their first Monthly Medal. In the Silver Section (0-20) Ann Carter (15) set the early mark with 85 but was soon bettered by Ishbel Shannon (12) with 81 and Caroline Bashford (15) whose 77 won the day. In the Bronze Section (21-36) Pam MacGillivray (21) took the prize with 82.
On Saturday there was a strong entry for the Glenfiddich Trophy but scoring was tricky in the breezy conditions resulting in a CSS of 72. Early starter Donnie Ross (16) set the pace with 71 which was soon matched by James Ingram (6). Challenges came from Les Dickson (19) and Martin Hendry (9) who both carded 72 and teenager Bruce Grant (12) 73, but it was Fraser Sharp (6) whose 70 eventually proved too good for the rest of the field and claimed the trophy. The first four players all received a cut in handicap.
A quick reminder that the closing date for all entries into this year's matchplay competitions is this Sun 19 Apr. You can enter all the competitions via Master Scoreboard.
