Hello golfers,
It looks like summer has arrived so let's hope that it decides to hang around for a while this year. June is a busy month for golf, with the second major of the year - The US Open - only a week away and our very own Club Championships taking place the following week. Away from the golf, the European Championships begin this Friday and we will show all the games live in the clubhouse - more on this below. So with all of this going on there's no excuse not to get along to the course and hone your skills either on the greens or in the bar.
Course Talk
With the better weather now upon us, Alan Dobbie and his Greenkeeping Team are hard at work ensuring that the course is in tip-top shape for all the big events coming up in the next few weeks. One of the main tasks they have been carrying out over the past few weeks is top dressing the greens. The purpose of this task is not to disrupt play in any way, but to ensure that you have smooth and firm putting surfaces to play on. The top dressing is a mixture of sand and seed to also help dilute the top inch or so of the soil and break up the thatch layer that can lead to spongy greens and hamper drainage. Alan and his team have been applying a light top dressing every week for the past few weeks and will continue to do so until the rates of growth on the greens evens out and the grass coverage thickens up.
Wildlife on the Course
At The Boat we are lucky to have such an abundance of wildlife all around and on the golf course, from rabbits to badgers (maybe not so lucky to have them on the course) to the family of deer that are often to be seen running over the course. However, in parts of America some of the wildlife is maybe not so welcome and harmless as our own - click here to view an alligator on a course in Florida.
Congratulations to local members Pam MacGillivray and Rory Simpson on winning the Boat Mixed Open on Saturday. The pair were out in the second group of the day and their nett 69 stood all day to clinch top spot.
EURO 2016 at Boat of Garten GC - With Euro 2016 due to start on Friday, we thought we would let you know that all televised games will be shown live in the clubhouse. To try and entice you in we will be offering you the chance to have a pint and food for only £7 per person provided you are in for the kick off. This is a great offer and hopefully you will all take it up and create a good atmosphere in the bar.

Gents Outing - This year's Gents Outing will be held at Moray Golf Club on Sunday, 24 July. There will be the usual bus transport laid on by the golf club to take you there and back, times to be confirmed, but the first tee-off time at Moray is at 10:30am. The day will consist of tea/coffee & bacon roll on arrival, 18 holes over Moray Old Course followed by a 2-course meal in the clubhouse. The cost of all of this is £65 per person. If you would like to come along to what is always a great day out, please register your interest and pay your money to myself in the pro shop.
